What Happened

North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed one person at  I-77 and Woodlawn Rd in Charlotte, NC on October 18th, 2021. Police say the incident involved seven vehicles crashing after a tractor trailer failed to reduce its speed as vehicles ahead were stopped while waiting to enter a construction work zone. This created a chain reaction collision amongst multiple other vehicles. The tractor-trailer involved overturned and one person, identified as 73-year-old Kenneth William Kelsey, suffered fatal injuries.  The driver believed to be at-fault was hospitalized with serious injuries. Several others were treated for minor injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
