What Happened

North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a teen at Cherry Grove Rd in Cerro Gordo, NC on July 12th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. A dump truck operated by J.C. Soles Jr reportedly failed to yield at an intersection and collided with a Toyota sedan operated by 18-year-old Matthew Sessoms. The Toyota caught fire in the collision and Sessoms died at the scene. Soles Jr was charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
