What Happened

North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at NC 87 in Columbus County, NC on February 20th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11:20 p.m. According to investigators,  van headed southbound is alleged to have crossed a center line before colliding with a tractor-trailer. The collision caused both the driver of the van and a passenger to be ejected, causing fatal injuries to the van driver, identified as 53-year-old Theophilus Lavern Everett. The other driver was also ejected from the truck and both that individual and the van passenger were seriously injured. Both were hospitalized for treatment. Additional details were not available.
