What Happened

Mercer County Sheriff's Office authorities are investigating a crash that killed a person at Route 29 and Harris Rd in Mercer County, OH on January 6th, 2022. Officials say the incident happened around 6:49 a.m. A semi-truck headed westbound on Route 20 reportedly began reversing to make a missed turned while blocking part of the roadway. Officials say a Honda passenger vehicle operated by 36-year-old Atsushi Tanaka then collided with the rear of the truck before veering from the road into a ditch, through a fence and into a pond. Tanaka died at the scene. Additional information was not available.
