What Happened

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed an officer at W Canal St and Myers St in Nelsonville, OH on August 3rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:25 p.m. A Nelsonville PD SUV occupied by Officer Scott R Dawley was headed for an emergency call when the SUV collided with a box truck entering the intersection. The impact forced the SUV from the road while the box truck veered into opposite direction traffic and collided with a Jeep Liberty occupied by two people. Dawley was taken to an area hospital with injuries he died from. The box truck driver, 55-year-old David Rardain was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. The couple in the Jeep were not injured. Additional details were not immediately available.
