What Happened

Oregon State Police are investigating a collision that killed one person at Hwy 126 in Mapleton, OR on October 22nd, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 3:15 p.m. According to investigators, a log truck headed westbound is said to have suffered from engine failure that caused the vehicle to begin to spill oil onto the roadway. Reports say oil was spilled for around 200 yards before the vehicle came to a stop. Following this, officials say an approaching SUV lost control while coming into contact with the oil, the vehicle sticking the logging truck and leaving the roadway and colliding head-on with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, identified as 59-year-old Christine Dorene Weathers, was fatally injured.
