What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a person at Hwy 97 in Jefferson County, OR on February 19th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 4:16 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles. According to police, a commercial truck lost control on icy roads before colliding with the rear of a second commercial truck. The vehicle went into the northbound lanes and collided with a Toyota Tacoma and a second Toyota Tacoma. Reports indicate a GMC Sierra was also involved in the crash. A passenger in one of the Toyota's, identified as 57-year-old Jose Refugio Gamboa-Lupercio, died at the scene. Several others involved were injured. Authorities did not have any additional information available.
