What Happened

State Police have identified the person killed in a collision at Hwy 101 in Spartanburg, SC on December 29th, 2021. They said the incident happened just before 6:45 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer and moped. 33-year-old Brenden Chaz Hawkins was traveling southbound on the moped when it was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer under unclear circumstances. Hawkins, who investigators believe was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
