What Happened

South Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed at least one person at I-20 in Kershaw County, SC on August 10th, 2024. Officials say the incident happened around 11:40 a.m. Police say a tractor-trailer headed eastbound on I-20 allegedly failed to control its speed in stopped traffic before colliding with the rear of a pickup truck. The pickup was pushed into the rear of a car ahead of it, reports say, both vehicles leaving the roadway in the impact. The pickup truck overturned and its operator, identified as 29-year-old Jalen Benjamin, was fatally injured. The driver of the car and a passenger were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
