What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist at Industrial Dr in Lexington, SC on May 20th, 2024. Police are saying the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. According to reports, a van is said to have collided with the rear rear of a motorcycle stopped behind a school bus slowing ahead. The impact is said to have pushed the motorcycle into the rear of the bus, pinning its operator between the vehicles. The operator, identified as 45-year-old Jon Douglas Ratcliffe, was fatally injured in the incident. Authorities say one of seven students aboard the school bus sustained a cut to the arm and was hospitalized. The van operator was identified as 20-year-old Giovani Mendoza-Jimenez, who was allegedly hospitalized with minor injuries and charged in connection with the collision.
