What Happened

South Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at I-26 in Orangeburg County, SC on October 8th, 2021. Officials say the incident happened around 5:15 a.m. A Kia Optima operated by 23-year-old Thomas Frank Jackson allegedly attempted to pass a tractor and collided with the truck. The truck veered left across a median after the collision and hit a tree. A second tractor headed westbound struck both vehicles and Jackson, who investigators say was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the first truck was hospitalized with minor injuries.
