What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that killed a man at I-90 in Summerset, SD on July 14th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. According to investigators, a motorcycle operated by 66-year-old Gary Holcombe was headed westbound on I-90 before slowing to avoid cargo that fell from a pickup truck ahead. As it slowed, the motorcycle was struck in the rear by a GMC Sierra operated by 64-year-old Anthony Schulz. Holcombe was ejected from the vehicle into a ditch and taken to an area hospital with injuries he passed away from a few days later. Reports indicate Schulz was charged with careless driving while the driver of the vehicle that lost cargo, 49-year-old Shane Devine, was cited for driving a vehicle with contents dropping or leaking.
