What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a teen at Gillis US 60 in Panhandle, TX on May 25th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 12:35 a.m. According to investigators, a Toyota Corolla operated by 19-year-old Alexis Nevaeh Gillis was headed eastbound on US 60 while a commercial truck operated by a 53-year-old San Antonio man was headed southbound on Hwy 207. Th truck is said to have stopped at a red light at the intersection and, upon turning green, proceeded through the intersection. Police allege the Corolla disregarded the red light for eastbound traffic and collided with the truck in the intersection. Gillis suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The truck driver was not injured. Police suggested running the red light and distracted driving as possible factors contributing to the crash.
