What Happened

Houston Police are investigating a crash that killed a driver at Bellaire Blvd in Houston, TX on May 22nd, 2022. Police say it happened just before 3:35 a.m. According to investigators, recent storms are suspected to have caused traffic lights in the area to become inactive. An SUV operated by Luis Alejandro Avalos Avila was reportedly headed westbound Bellaire and is said to have missed several traffic lights before colliding with rear of another SUV going southbound on Ranchester. The driver of the vehicle that was struck, Andrea Balderas-Garcia, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Police suspect alcohol may have also played a factor in the crash and Avalos was arrested after failing a field sobriety test and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.
