What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a man at Expressway 83 in Brownsville, TX on August 27th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 3:20 a.m. According to investigators, a Volkswagen allegedly traveling the wrong direction collided head-on with a Toyota SUV. A 17-year-old teen in the Toyota died at the scene. The driver of the alleged wrong-way vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Astulfo Cantu Jr., also died at the sene. Three others in the Toyota, ages 17 and 18, were hospitalized with suspected serious injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
