What Happened

Tyler Police are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at South Broadway in Tyler, TX on August 18th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. According to investigators, a pickup is said to have been headed southbound on Broadway before allegedly attempting to pass traffic in a southbound shoulder. While doing so, police say the truck made contact with a second vehicle, causing the truck to overturn and roll several times. The driver of the truck, identified as 36-year-old Austin Durrett, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, who was not publicly identified, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
