What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured a driver at County Rd 7200 in Lubbock County, TX on October 1st, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 12:15 a.m. A Ford F-250 operated by 34-year-old Austin Griggs is said to have been traveling at an unsafe speed and ran a stop sign when it travelled across east and westbound lanes on US 84. It then veered through a ditch and struck railroad tracks, causing it to go airborne. One it landed, investigators say Griggs fled the scene on foot and was located six hours later. He was hospitalized with serious injuries and allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. He was issued charges for Unsafe Speed, Disregarding a Stop Sign, Not Secured by Safety Belt and Failure to Report Injury Accident to Authorities.
