What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist at Gus Thomasson Rd in Mesquite, TX on October 3rd, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:24 p.m. According to investigators, a motorcycle operated by 57-year-old Billy Sanders Jr was northbound on Gus Thomasson Rd at the time. Traveling west bound Tam O' Shanter Dr was a Honda Accord. Police say the Honda was pulling across northbound lanes of Gus Thomasson before it was struck by a the motorcycle. The impact ejected Sanders from the vehicle, leaving him with serious injuries. Reports say Sanders was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. The other driver, who was not publicly identified, was uninjured, according to police. It was alleged by authorities the motorcycle may have been traveling above the posted speed limit and the Honda may have failed to yield prior to the collision.
