What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a person at I-35E in Dallas, TX on July 18th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 10:25 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer operated by 42-year-old Biniam Afewerki is believed to have lost control before crossing a center median and striking a work vehicle in a shoulder. From there, the vehicle continued forward and struck an iron fence. Police believe an unknown vehicle may have struck an object in the roadway that traveled through the front windshield of the truck, striking Afewerki and causing the vehicle to lose control. Afewerki suffered fatal injuries in the incident. It was not known if the object striking Afewerki or the resulting collisions caused the injuries.
