What Happened

Police are investigating a crash that killed one person at US 59 in Wharton, TX on September 6th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. According to investigators, a commercial truck was disabled in a shoulder of the highway, its driver and passenger outside the vehicle for repairs.  Under unconfirmed circumstances, reports say an approaching southbound truck veered into the shoulder and collided with the disabled truck, striking and trapping its driver as it continued traveling for some distance. That individual, identified as 73-year-old Bruce Edwards, was fatally injured. His passenger and son, identified as 36-year-old Jamaal Edwards, was seriously injured, police say, and hospitalized for treatment. The driver of the suspect vehicle was not publicly identified and allegedly uninjured. Additional information was not available.
