What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at Westmoreland Rd in Dallas, TX on May 30th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 5:25 p.m. Investigators say a Chevrolet Colorado operated by a 25-year-old driver was northbound nearing Angelina Dr. Police say 66-year-old Candida Torres Cortez was crossing from the westside of Westmoreland Rd as the vehicle approaching. They allege the Colorado was traveling over the speed limit and may have run a red light before striking Cortez. Following the collision, the vehicle is alleged to have continued northbound without stopping to render aid. It then collided with a Ford Expedition proceeding through the intersection. Following this collision, police say the Chevrolet operator fled the scene on-foot wasn't was later located by authorities. The driver of the Ford,  a 19-year-old male who was not publicly identified, was seriously injured. A 17-year-old passenger had possible injuries. Cortez suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
