What Happened

Area authorities have information on a crash that killed two people at US 287 near Childress, TX on November 28th, 2021. Police state the collision happened around 11:30 a.m. A pickup truck occupied by five individuals, including 25-year-old Carlos Alfredo Alvarez-Cabrera and 20-year-old Freddy Pineda, parked on the northbound shoulder for unknown reasons. Police say four of the five people were outside the vehicle, including Pineda and Alvarez-Cabrera, when a semi-truck drove onto the shoulder, hit the pickup truck and struck both Alvarez-Cabrera and Pineda. The semi-truck also went into a ditch and overturned, however the driver, 54-year-old Christopher Tyson, was not injured. The driver of the pickup and two others were also not injured. However, both Pineda and Alvarez-Pineda suffered fatal injuries.
