What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at I-410 in San Antonio, TX on September 14th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 1:20 p.m. A Lincoln Town Car operated by 29-year-old Carlos Cortez reportedly veered from the road across an entrance ramp before crashing into a crash attenuator, going airborne and landing into a concrete bridge column. Investigators allege that Cortez fell asleep at the wheel prior to the crash and confirmed that he suffered fatal injuries. A 43-year-old passenger suffered less serious injuries. Investigators also state that alcoholic beverages and narcotics were found in the vehicle at the scene.
