What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at I-69 and Orange Grove Dr in Harris County, TX on October 7th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 11:27 p.m. According to investigators, 58-year-old Carlos Mejia was attempting to cross the main lanes of the freeway with a bicycle headed west to east when he was struck by a Toyota Corolla operated by a 17-year-old male. After the collision, an approaching Bentley also struck Mejia and he suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Investigators believe Mejia may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision.
