Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured two people at Mile 2 Rd in Mercedes, TX on December 16th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 10:52 p.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Elantra operated by 31-year-old Jesus Villegas was northbound before allegedly veering into southbound lanes. There, police say the vehicle collided with a southbound Dodge Durango operated by 30-year-old Cassandra Garces. The impact is said to have sent both vehicles into separate ditches on the side of the roadway. Reports indicate Garces and 52-year-old Hyundai passenger, Rebecca Ramirez, were seriously injured. A 13-year-old child in Durango had possible injuries, police say, while Villegas was fatally injured.
