Texas Department of Public Safety officials have information on a crash that killed a person at State Hwy 309 in Kerens, TX on December 25th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 1:35 p.m. According to police, a Hyundai Sonata operated by 35-year-old Cassius Phillips was headed southbound on Hwy 309 at an alleged unsafe speed when it veered from the road as it curved. The vehicle collided with a road sign and went into a skid, striking a tree and fence. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and Phillips was ejected from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries. Police say alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
