What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at US 69 in Jefferson County, TX on July 29th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 6:03 p.m. A motorcycle operated by 29-year-old Chance Schofield was exiting a private drive onto US 69 when it is said to have failed to yield. It then turned into the path of a Cadillac STS operated by 40-year-old Lloyd Jones Jr. The impact pushed vehicle from the road into a side ditch. Schofield suffered fatal injuries. Investigators say Jones, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the crash.
