What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed the passenger of a driver at Business I-20 in Abilene, TX on December 21st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:26 p.m. Authorities allege a Chevrolet Camaro operated by a 40-year-old Winters, TX man was eastbound on Hwy 80 at the time, The vehicle is said to have lost control and traveled through a grass median, striking a light pole at that location. From there, police say the vehicle traveled across westbound lanes where it traveled through the grass located in front of a nearby hotel and rotated into a second pole. The impact caused 68-year-old passenger, Charles Ferrell Jr, to be elected from the vehicle, leaving him fatally injured at the scheme. The Winters man had non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports. Additional information was not available.
