What Happened

Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 271 in Tyler, TX on September 14th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 8:20 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 1500 headed southbound on FM 2015 is alleged to have  been traveling at a speed that was unsafe prior to proceeding into the intersection with US 271 and colliding with a Dodge Grand Caravan. Reports say the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, the Grand Caravan rolling onto its passenger side and into a nearby utility box. Reports say both the 39-year-old driver of the Grand Caravan, identified as Chelsea Askew, as well as 62-year-old passenger, Tammy Gibney, were fatally injured. Their 11-year-old passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries while the 19-year-old Ram 1500 operator was also seriously injured. Additional details were not available.
