What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a child at South Rose St in Archer City, TX on July 9th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 9:45 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 2500 operated by 30-year-old Tyler Mark Steel is believed to have been headed southbound at the time of the crash. Police allege the vehicle was traveling a speed deemed to be unsafe when it allegedly ran a stop sign at an intersection. From there, they say the vehicle traveling through a barrow ditch and went airborne. When landing, the truck overturned onto its passenger side, ejecting a 6-year-old child. The child was taken to an area hospital with injuries he died from on July 11th. Two other child passengers, both 12, were also hospitalized, along with Steel. Authorities say their injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Police did not disclose additional information.
