Police believe the accident happened around 9:23 p.m. According to information from investigators, a GMC Sierra operated by an unnamed 37-year-old Amarillo woman was headed eastbound on SW 45th Ave. The vehicle was traveling behind a Ford Focus operated by 54-year-old Christine Mastowski. It is alleged by authorities that the GMC failed to control its speed and struck the rear of the Ford, pushing it feared into a nearby electrical pole. The collision is believed to have caused Mastowski to suffer serious injuries. The other driver is believed to have been uninjured and was arrested on a Driving While Intoxicated charge.
