What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at State Hwy 171 near Covington, TX on September 17th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet pickup truck headed northbound on State Hwy 171 is alleged to have begun to experience engine trouble that left the vehicle disabled in a lane of travel. While disabled, reports say an approaching Dodge Ram collided with the disabled vehicle, which is said to have caused the vehicle to spin and strike one of the occupants, who had previously exited the vehicle. That occupant, identified as 44-year-old Christopher Lozano, was fatally injured. Reports say there were no other reported injuries and additional information was not available.
