What Happened

Area authorities have identified the two people killed in a collision on North East Ave in Wharton, TX on July 18th, 2021. Police are saying the crash happened around 1 a.m. A Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 21-year-old Deleon Perkins reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign intersection and collided with an Acura sedan with two occupants. The occupants, identified as 42-year-old Christopher Whatley and 34-year-old Megan Sandberg, were killed in the collision. Perkins suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. Police also arrested Perkins on two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter.
