What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at FM 196 in Lamar County, TX on September 25th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 10:58 p.m. A Dodge Ram operated by 24-year-old Clinton Wayne Smoot was reportedly headed southwest on FM 196 when it veered from the road at a curve. It then went into a ditch and overturned multiple times, causing Smoot serious injuries. Officers at the scene performed field sobriety tests and concluded that Smoot was intoxicated, suggesting and/or issuing a Driving While Intoxicated charge.
