What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at FM 756 in Smith County, TX on August 26th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 9:55 p.m. A Toyota Tacoma operated by 24-year-old Corey Evans Bonner was headed southbound on FM 756 as it approached a curve. Investigators say the truck was traveling too fast for the curve and ended up veering into a northbound lane. It collided head-on with a Chevrolet Impala operated by 21-year-old Alejandra Briones Rangel. Bonner suffered fatal injuries while Rangel suffered serious injuries. Police allege that Bonner may have been drinking prior to the crash. Additional information was not immediately available.
