Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the death of a driver in a crash at Yorktown Blvd in Corpus Christi, TX on August 27th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:11 a.m. A Dodge Charger operated by 43-year-old Daniel Cortez Jr is accused of traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control and crashing into a concrete light pole. From there, it also struck a concrete bridge barrier, partially ejecting Cortez from the vehicle. Cortez suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Investigators say that speed and alcohol are suspected to have been factors in the crash.
