What Happened

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office authorities have information on a crash that killed a pedestrian at State Hwy 36 in Comanche County, TX on June 24th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11:58 p.m. as a Dodge Avenger is alleged to have been attempting to flee police. The victim, identified as 63-year-old Daniel Schaefer, was in a parking lot near the area, working to attach a tow chain to two vehicles. Police say Schaefer was under one of the vehicles at the time as the Dodge neared. The Dodge is said to have lost control after running a red light before crashing into the vehicles in the parking lot. Schaefer was killed while the operator of the Dodge, identified as 31-year-old Eric Davis, was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Following release, police say Davis was arrested.
