What Happened

Houston Police are investigating a crash that killed a man at Westheimer Rd in Houston, TX on July 31st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 12:50 a.m. According to investigators, a Tesla Model 3 headed eastbound is said to have struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway. Following the collision, the Tesla is alleged to have fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian with fatal injuries at the scene. The pedestrian was identified as 29-year-old Darsheel Thakkar. Police later located a possible suspect, identified as 30-year-old Joseph Higgins, who they allege was the driver of the Tesla. Police say Higgins was arrested on a failure to stop and render aid charge. Additional information was not immediately available.
