What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that killed two men at State Hwy 71 in Smithville, TX on July 17th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 4:22 a.m. A Dodge Ram 2500 operated by 29-year-old Aubrey Farley reportedly was headed westbound in eastbound travel lanes when it collided head-on with a Volkswagen Tiguan. Both the 42-year-old man driving the Tiguan, Devon Antonio Freeman and his 28-year-old passenger, Markees Lewis, were killed in the collision. Farley was evaluated for possible injuries and charged with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter.
