What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at US 54 near Dalhart, TX on April 21st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 4:45 a.m. According to police, a Dodge Ram 1500 operated by 25-year-0ld Devon Riddell was traveling southwest on US 54 while a GM box van operated by 62-year-old Vasile Veverita was headed northeast. At some point, the Ram is believed to have crossed a center stripe from unknown reasons into oncoming traffic. The van moved into the right shoulder before both vehicles ended up colliding nearly head-on. Riddell was ejected from the truck in the collision as it overturned and suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Veverita was hospitalized and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
