Area authorities are investigating a chemical leak that led to the death of two people at LyondellBasell Industries in La Porte, TX on July 27th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 7:35 p.m. A chemical leak happened inside the acetyls unit that released 100,00 pounds of acetic acid. Two contract workers involved in planned maintenance, identified as Dustin Day and Shawn Kuhleman, suffered fatal injuries. Over 40 other employees were treated for various injuries, including serious burns. Additional information was not yet available.
