What Happened

Harris County Sheriff's Office authorities are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at Bellfort Ave in Houston, TX on October 15th, 2021. Police say the incident happened when a 20-year-old pedestrian was crossing outside a crosswalk. The pedestrian, identified as Edvin Varela-Chavarria, was struck by a Nissan Sentra which then drove to a parking lot and the driver fled the scene on-foot. A female passenger was seen getting into a driver's seat and driving away. Varela-Chavarria was pronounced dead at the scene.
