What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash at I-2 in San Juan, TX on April 6th, 2022. According to investigators, a Volkswagen Jetta operated by a 19-year-old Pharr man was headed westbound along with two other vehicles, including a GMC Yukon operated by 26-year-old Eleasar Esquivel. The Jetta is said to performed a lane change when unsafe and collided with another vehicle. It then struck the Yukon before losing control and colliding with the fourth vehicle, pushing it into a concrete barrier. The Jetta came to a stop after crashing into a construction road sign. The driver of the second vehicle, a 51-year-old Brownsville man, was not injured. Esquivel and his passenger, 20-year-old Dorothy Esquivel, are said to have both possibly suffered injuries. The Pharr man was seriously injured and reports indicate a charge of Intoxication Assault was recommended and/or issued by police.
