What Happened

 Authorities with the Texas Department of Public Safety have information on a crash that killed a driver at I-20 in Kaufman County, TX on July 17th, 2022. Officials believe the incident happened around 3:58 a.m. According to their investigators, A Toyota Camry operated by an unnamed 20-year-old Balch Springs woman was headed westbound on I-20 before making a lance change at a time they believe was unsafe to do so. This caused the vehicle to strike a Dodge Ram occupying the lane, leading to the Dodge losing control. While attempting to correct onto the road, the vehicle overturned, causing fatal injuries to the driver. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Elia Avila. 19-year-old passenger, Ricardo Munoz, suffered minor injuries. The Balch Springs woman was uninjured and charged with Changing Lanes When Unsafe.
