Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a person at US 281 and Webber Rd in Cameron County, TX on April 9th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. According to investigators, a GMC Acadia operated by 27-year-old Eric Castillo was headed eastbound on US 281 when it collided with a commercial truck operated by a 55-year-old Lakeland, FL man. The truck had been headed westbound and preparing to turn southbound at the time. Police allege the GMC failed to control its speed prior to the collision, which caused serious injuries to Castillo. Records indicate Castillo was issued a Failure to Control Speed charge. The Lakeland man was also issued charges including No Record of Duty Status.
