What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed one person at Victoria Rd in Hidalgo County, TX on August 21st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 9:39 p.m. According to investigators, a Kia Optima was allegedly fleeing a traffic stop before police say the vehicle ran traffic signal at the intersection with Business 83. Officials say the vehicle collided with a Ford Ranger, operated by 27-year-old Erick Juarez Cabrera. Juarez Cabrera was taken to an area hospital with injuries he died from. His passenger, a woman who was not publicly identified, was hospitalized with suspected non-life-threatening injuries. The Kia operator had serious injuries, according to officials, and did not disclose additional information.
