What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a man at Mira Flores Ave and 13th St in Zapata, TX on April 3rd, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 1:44 a.m. Investigators believe a Chevrolet Silverado operated by 22-year-old Joan Zuniga was headed southbound on Mira Flores Ave when it veered from the road into a light pole. The vehicle continued forward and struck a pile of concrete nearby before spinning and coming to a stop. A 24-year-old passenger in the vehicle, Hector Baldomero Gonzalez Jr, was seriously injured while Zuniga was less seriously injured. Zuniga reportedly fled the scene prior to police arrival. Reports indicate an Intoxication Assault and Failure to Stop and Render Aid charge were recommended and/or issued.
