What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured multiple people at I-35 in Austin, TX on May 6th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 5:12 a.m. According to investigators, a Toyota Camry operated by a 24-year-old Austin man was headed northbound on the service road approaching the intersection with Howard Lane. Authorities allege the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of a speed prior to running a red traffic light and collided with a Dodge Caravan turning left at the intersection. The collision caused the the Dodge to overturn and the Toyota to catch fire after colliding with stopped vehicles. The driver of the Dodge, Hector Oliva Herrera, had injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. A passenger in the same vehicle had more serious injuries. The driver of one of the vehicles that was hit, Daniela Baltierrez, had non-life-threatening injuries. The Austin man was evaluated for possible injuries and police did not have additional information available.
