What Happened

Lubbock Police are investigating a crash that killed a man at State Hwy 349 in Lubbock, TX on January 12th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 2:24 a.m. Investigators say a pickup truck headed northbound on TX 349 crossed into opposite direction traffic before colliding with a tractor-trailer. A sedan behind the pickup truck then collided with the rear of the pickup truck and the pickup truck driver, identified as 39-year-old Ian Guy Smith, died at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles were hospitalized in stable condition. Additional information was not available.
