What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash at Beaumont Hwy and Blueberry Ln in Harris County, TX on June 27th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 4:15 p.m. A Mercury Grand Marquis operated by 18-year-old Ivan Chavez was headed eastbound when it began to suffer tire issues with two different tires. This caused the vehicle to lose control and spin into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado K1500 where it was t-boned. Chavez and his passenger, 18-year-old Valerie Soto, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The other driver, 30-year-old Joe Vega suffered serious injuries while his 25-year-old passenger suffered less serious injuries. Responding officers state having reason to believe that Vega displayed signs of intoxication at the hospital and also mention that open alcoholic containers were found at the scene inside the Silverado. Vega was issued a DWI charge.
